NEWS BULLETIN:
Construction Update For July 2, 2009
|
Oxnard - Although we have made steady progress to date, our volunteer count has rapidly dropped off due to the impending summer months. If you have ever thought about organizing a group from your work, church or neighborhood to come out and help us, now would be a great time to do it. Due to the holiday, the Oxnard site will be closed this Saturday, July 4th. Volunteers help at the Oxnard site every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday until completion of the homes expected in October. If you would like to schedule a group in the future for our Oxnard project or have any questions about the work calendar, please contact Matt Gilling @ 805-485-6065 or mattg@habitatventura.org.
Santa Paula - We have made plenty of progress on these two homes over the few weeks. If you like framing and sheeting on a second story, than don't miss out on the next couple of weeks! As a reminder, the Santa Paula worksite will be closed on Saturday, July 4th. We have volunteers helping at our Santa Paula site every Wednesday and Saturday until the completion of the homes. If you have any specific construction questions about this project, please contact Adam Hernandez, Santa Paula Site Supervisor, at 805-844-6937. Thanks again to Thrivent Financial for sponsoring our 50th house!
Special Recognition and Thank You!!

On behalf of our Board of Directors and the entire Staff here at Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County, we would like to thank the Doherty Electric Company for sponsoring our 2nd Annual Family picnic last weekend! Habitat families, volunteers and Staff enjoyed themselves at the park and had a fun time. Also, we would like to thank United Rentals for supplying their popcorn machine and providing great snacks throughout the day. We hope to see more of you at the picnic next year!
Special Volunteer Recognition!!

On behalf of our Board of Directors and the entire Staff here at Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County, we would like to recognize the outstanding efforts of Andrew Pennington! Andrew has been a construction volunteer at both of our worksites this year and has put in over 75 hours to date! He is a recent graduate of Sacramento State and now works for the Department of Defense doing computer programming at Pt. Mugu for the Navy. Andrew has experience in many areas of construction and has been a tremendous help on whatever project he is assigned and also helps out as a Crew Leader when we need extra supervision . Thanks again Andrew for all you do for our families and our mission!
Special Group Recognition!!
|
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the groups of volunteers who come out and help us each week. This past week, we were fortunate enough to have groups from the following organizations: our Wednesday Crew, NBVC Construction Battalion Seabees, Calvary Chapel/Malibu, Cal Lutheran University Volunteer Center/Thousand Oaks, Westminster Presbyterian Church/Westlake Village, Foothill High School Administration/Ventura, Thrivent Financial and ARC of Ventura County. We really value our relationships with these groups and are glad that we can work together to end poverty housing in Ventura County!
Bill Larson's Bike Ride for Habitat
|
There are many needy and hard-working families who qualify for homes that are provided by the funds raised through the Habitat for Humanity organization in Ventura County. I will be completing a 100 mile bike ride in Santa Barbara this August to create a timeline and personal sense of urgency to raise money for Habitat for Humanity. In previous years many of you have generously donated to the cause and I am asking for your help again in 2009 to help me raise money for this extremely satisfying and worthwhile cause. If you would like to donate, please visit www.active.com/donate/habitatbill. All procedures will go to Habitat to the Max fund at St. Max's Church in Westlake Village to help sponsor an upcoming project.
Sincerely,
Bill Larson
ReStore Pick-Up Driver Needed
|
In two weeks, we will be in need a volunteer who is willing to make pick ups for the ReStore. From July 16th through August 14th, I am looking for someone who is willing to drive throughout Ventura County to pick up items being donated. We will provide the truck, training and any supplies you will need to complete the pick ups. The hours are Wednesday, Thursday & Friday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Candidates should have familiarity with Ventura County and be able to lift at least 50 lbs. Anyone who is interested should contact Matt as soon as possible. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to help make a difference!
You Can Help Close the Gap!

A Habitat story...
As a Habitat family's home was being dedicated with staff, volunteers and the community gathered to celebrate, a member of Habitat's staff asked the new homeowner's young son, "What are you most excited about in your new home?" With a sparkle in his eye, the boy quickly said, "the floor!"
Surprised by his answer, the Habitat staff member went to the boy's parents and shared his answer. They explained that in their previous home, the family had raw, rough and unsafe wood floors. Her son not only loved the carpet in his room, but on their first night in his home, he slept on the floor instead of his bed.
Habitat is more than building homes; we help build new lives filled with HOPE!
The current economy is putting pressure on many people, businesses and non-profits... and Habitat is no exception. Although we remain thankful for the unyielding support from many donors, we need your help. To help close the gap in the drop in donations, we are asking you to give Habitat a special donation of $25.00. Some may be able to afford twice as much (or more!) and some may need to give less. Please ask your friends, family, co-workers, or neighbors to give what they can to help us in our efforts. We are your community non-profit that remains committed to supporting your neighborhoods. Any support you can give will help us to keep investing in Ventura County.
As the oldest California affiliate, it has been Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County's passion and mission to provide the community with affordable housing for low and very-low income families. As of today, we have built 47 homes, with over 52,000 volunteers and over 315,000 hours of love, commitment, and generosity for the Habitat families. We currently have four homes under construction in both Oxnard and Santa Paula.
Please join our $25 campaign to close the gap...in building new homes, new dreams, new hope here in our backyard. For more information, please call Suzzi Crouch at 805.485.6065 or email her at suzzic@habitatventura.org. Thanks again for your generosity!
