our vision

A world where everyone has a decent place to live.

our mission

Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

The problem

In Ventura County, people struggle to provide the most basic need for their families: a home. According to a University of Southern California report, rent is projected to climb to $2,090 in 2020, up $107 from $1,983 a month in 2018. One in three spend more than 50% of what they earn on housing, leaving precious little for necessities like food, transportation, and medical care, and nothing left to save for their future. Many live in homes that are cramped, unsafe, and in disrepair and families suffer from the effects of unstable housing: their health is worse, children perform poorly in schools, and there are fewer opportunities.

What we do

We're building a county where everyone has a safe, decent place to live. We build and sell affordable homes, provide low-cost home repairs, offer financial education, and advocate for policies that create more housing for struggling families. With the help of our partners we help working families realize the dream of homeownership and build strength, stability and self-reliance. Because when families have a stable place to call home, they can stop getting by and start to thrive.

Who we serve

We serve low-income families who are in need of safe, affordable housing. Each family demonstrates a need, ability to pay, and a willingness to partner. They complete 250-500 hours of sweat equity working alongside our volunteers to help build their own homes and complete financial education training that gives them the tools to be successful homeowners. By partnering with families to help them build secure, independent futures through affordable homeownership opportunities we offer a hand up, not a handout.

Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County serves people in need regardless of race, religion, age or gender.  Volunteers and supporters are also welcome regardless of sexual orientation, race, religion, age or gender.  Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations do not proselytize.

How we build

We are a locally funded affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International since 1983 and have built 70 homes and repaired over 120 in our community. Habitat homes are built by future homeowners with the help of our network of volunteers. We strive to use contributions efficiently and effectively, investing 100% of donor dollars into our programs. Our ReStore income covers 100% of our overhead and administrative expenses. We are proud to have been awarded the highest possible rating from both Guide Star and Charity Navigator for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency. In 2018, we received a perfect 100 point score from Charity Navigator. Less than one percent of the thousands of charities rated by Charity Navigator have earned perfect scores.
