Each and every volunteer makes an important contribution to Habitat’s efforts to eliminate poverty housing in Ventura County, helping to meet our goal of assuring that all people have a simple, decent place to live.

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore welcomes volunteers (individuals and groups) who are able to help in a variety of roles and for any length of time — a few days, one day, or even a few hours. We are looking for volunteers who can lend a hand to assist customers, answer phones, receive and organize inventory, stock shelves, or work at the sales counter.
- No previous retail or construction experience needed.
- Basic skills are helpful for certain jobs, such as counting and basic writing skills for cashier work, familiarity with tools or ability to lift heavy items for merchandising work.
- ReStore staff will also provide job training for all volunteers.
- All volunteers must complete a volunteer liability form and take part in a short orientation.
- Please inform us of any limitations you might have, so we can insure that you are safe and comfortable.
- Volunteers 14 years of age or older may work at the Habitat ReStore. Volunteers younger than 16 must have a parent or guardian in attendance at the ReStore when volunteering. Volunteers younger than 18 must have a parent or guardian sign the liability form.
- There is no upper age limit for volunteers.
Work Schedules and Hours
- The ReStore offers flexible schedules for all volunteers; you may work a regular schedule or on an occasional basis.
- We accept volunteers all hours the store is open: Tuesday through Friday 9 am to 5 pm and Saturday 8 am to 4 pm.
Sign-In and Work Attire
- All volunteers are asked to sign in/out and wear a volunteer tag during all shifts.
- Volunteers should wear sturdy, closed‐toed shoes and neat work clothes.

CASHIER
- Operate cash register and credit/debit machine
- Greet customers entering the ReStore
- Answer the telephone
- Schedule donation pickups
- Keep checkout and entrance area neat and clean
- Assist customers and donors
- Help with merchandise processing
- Enjoy working with the public
- Ability to count money and basic writing skills preferred
MERCHANDISING – SALES FLOOR
- Sort, clean, assemble, and price merchandise
- Place merchandise on store shelves
- Keep work area neat and clean
- Assist customers and donors
- Keep sales area neat and orderly
- Work closely with sales floor associateEnjoy working with the public
- Basic writing skills, helpful but not required.
- Ability to lift and carry items, using hand trucks, dollies, and carts
MERCHANDISING – BACK OF THE STORE/RECEIVING
- Receive and unload donations and complete donation receipts
- Move merchandise from the loading dock into the store
- Sort, clean, assemble, and price merchandise
- Place merchandise in sales areas
- Load sold items into customer vehicles
- Keep work area neat and clean
- Work closely with Receiving Associate
- Assist customers and donors
- Clean sales area and loading dockEnjoy working with the public
- Ability to lift and carry heavy items, using hand trucks, dollies, and carts
- Familiarity with simple tools
