Building Homes & Hope

Why We Build

Together, we are building strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter in Ventura County.

A "Hand-Up" not a Hand-Out

Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County, a locally funded affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, has built 64 homes and repaired over 300 in our community. People in Ventura County partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Thanks to the support of community organizations, donors and volunteers, Habitat homeowners can achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and their families.

To qualify for Habitat for Humanity's homeownership program, families are selected based upon on the following criteria:

Need: Low-income families currently living in substandard housing
Ability to Pay: Repayment of an affordable loan
Willingness to Partner: Investment of 250-500 hours of labor ("sweat equity") toward helping build their home and the homes of other Habitat families.
